Goodbye Summer! Hello August!!

Hi Friends!!

Wow, I can't believe it is already August!!!  I go back for our first teacher prep day in 5 days- ahhh!!  I'm not ready!

I am really excited about this year, though.  I am moving to 2nd grade and I am excited to be a part of what is going to be a fabulous team!!  We also have new admin this year and from what I can tell, it's going to be a great year!!  I am very impressed with our new principal already!  Can't wait to see what the new year brings!

I had a wonderful summer and I'm a little sad that it's over!

I started off being maid of honor in my best friend's wedding!  It was wonderful!!

Then I celebrated my 30th birthday!  Woo hoo!!

Then shortly after that, I left for Vegas!  That was an amazing trip and you can read all about it HERE!

Then I was back in Texas for about two weeks before we left on our road trip!!  If you follow me on Instagram, then you've probably seen these pictures already, so please bear with me!

Me and Honest Abe!!

One of the 5 concerts we went to- 2 in Maryland, 2 in Portsmouth, VA and 1 in Alpharetta, GA

Amazing crab cake sandwich in Maryland
I only posted 4 pictures, when really I could have posted a lot more!  We had a great time in Washington DC, seeing the sights along the National Mall, eating pizza at 2 Mary's and eating chili dogs at the famous Ben's Chili Bowl.  We spent time in Portsmouth, VA and Charleston, SC too.  Then Atlanta/Alpharetta on the way home!  It was a great trip!!

Tomorrow's the first day our building will be open, so I'll be headed up to my classroom!  Since I'm moving grade levels, I'm moving to a different room, so I have to start from nothing!  I'm excited about the clean slate, but nervous about getting it all done in time!!  Plus my new room is smaller than my old room, doesn't have a sink and doesn't have a bathroom.  I'm a lot a bit bummed by everything in that last sentence.  :(  Oh well!  We're going to make it work!!

Then teachers start up on the 15th and kiddos join us on the 25th!!!  What about you?  When do you start?  Are you already back in school?

  1. I'm jealous that you have so many paid days before students come! We go back next Monday and kids start on Wednesday. We have about 2 hours total to work in our rooms on our 2 child free days and our Meet the Teacher is on Tuesday night. I have spent about a week in my room getting it ready so far.

We took a family vacay to Texas this summer. We were by Grapevine. :)

    1. Wow! That is fast! 2 hours is not enough! A lot of our prep days will be taken by district trainings, but yes we are lucky to get a few full days to work in our rooms. Today and tomorrow are extra, unpaid days, but I can't imagine trying to do it all once our prep days start! Glad you visited us here in Texas; we always enjoy a break from the 100+ degree weather when we travel!

  3. Well, now I see that my first message did not show up....let me try again...congrats on your move to 2nd grade. In my opinion I think you will love it! I'd like to give you something from my store to help you out. Look through it and then email me in the address above and let me know what you'd like.

  4. Hi Katie! Welcome to club thirty! And your road trip founds way more exciting that just laying out on a beach. Awesome!
I too have moved up to second this year and we don’t have unpaid days here in NY, we are paid through the summer and I retained keys to the building all summer so I’ve been a perpetual presence of sorts most of the past two months, though I have vacationed twice.
Have an great first day and school year! I go back tomorrow for in-service but students don’t report until the 4th so technically we have 2 full days to set up not counting Labor Day but I am about half way set up already.
